Principal Dabney is a native of Richmond, Virginia and attended Richmond Public Schools from kindergarten through the 12th grade. She obtained her bachelors degree in education from Virginia Union University and her masters degree of supervision and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been an educator for 28 years, on the elementary, middle, and high school level.
Her educational philosophy is that all students can learn and experience success, with loving, caring, and committed individuals. As an educator, she feels strongly that it is her responsibility to pay it forward to the next generation and provide them with the best educational experience possible.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Assistant Principal Murray attended Jackson State University located in Jackson, Mississippi where he majored in music education and was a member of The Sonic Boom of the South Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band II, and Symphonic Band. He continued his education at Norfolk State University (Bachelor’s Degree in Education), Central Michigan University (Masters in Educational Leadership), and is currently attending Grand Canyon University (Doctor of Educational Leadership, K-12).
Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Murray was a music educator for 17 years having served as Director of Bands at several middle and high schools in North Carolina, Maryland and in Eastern Henrico County, Virginia where he served at John Rolfe Middle School and Varina High School.
A lifelong educator, Mr. Murray is dedicated to student success and mentorship. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., National Association for Music Educators, and The Richmond Pops. He looks forward to continuing his career at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School!
Hello Titans, my name is Deonta Gail, I am your Assistant Principal here at Martin Luther King, Jr Middle School. I am a 2007 graduate of Virginia State University, where I received my BS in Business Marketing and in 2019, I became a graduate of Regent University where I received my Masters in Educational Leadership. I started my educational career in 2010 as a career switcher, switching from a finance career. I spent my first nine years as a Special Education Teacher at Varina High School and the Va. Department of Juvenile Justice. I have spent the last four years in educational leadership as a Dean of Students at John Marshall High School and Assistant Principal at Richmond Virtual Academy. I hope you are just as excited as I am to be a Titan!
Ms. Pamela Couther currently works as assistant principal at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. Prior to accepting the call to school leadership, she worked an Instructional Specialist for Secondary Mathematics, focusing on high school Mathematics(2 years-RPS), with Richmond Public Schools. Ms. Couther’s previous positions include testing coordinator (2 years-RPS), Mathematics coach(4 years-Henrico County Public Schools), and Mathematics teacher(15 years – RPS). Math instruction is a passion, for Pam, and her calling is coaching teachers to improve their practice, fill their teacher toolbox, and to serve our children with love. In 1998, Pam obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Hampton University. She completed her Masters in Mathematics at Virginia State University in 2015, focused on K-8 Mathematics Specialist. Ms. Couther completed an endorsement in Administration and Supervision with Longwood University in summer 2021.
