School Counselors

Meet Ms. Salena Scott

There are no typical days as a middle school counselor, and never a dull moment! I am Salena D. Scott, M.Ed. and am currently Head School Counselor here at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.  Working with students as a 1st grade teacher in Petersburg Public Schools gave me the encouragement to move forward in furthering my educational experience with helping students succeed.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to start my counseling career in Richmond Public Schools in 2006.  I have been a school counselor at George Washington Carver Elementary and moved to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School where I have remained over the last decade.  I work with students individually, in-group settings, and in the classroom. I collaborate with parents, other counselors, teachers and the administration to help support students achieve their academic best.  As a school counselor we work hard and strive to provide academic, career and social guidance to make sure our students transition from middle school to high school with a sound mind and direction to excellence. The only way this works is if we work together to continue in our goal of making sure we are One Team, One Voice, and One Goal!

Meet Mr. Timothy Carter

My name is Timothy Carter and I am happy to introduce myself as the 8th Grade School Counselor at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School.

I grew up in Richmond, VA and attended Mary Munford Elementary, Henderson Middle, and John Marshall High (c/o 2000).  I received my Master of Arts Degree in Urban Education (School Counseling) from Norfolk State University in 2013. I am really enjoying my role in encouraging our students to strive for their personal best. It is a thrill to be working with the students, teachers, administrators, and parents whom I so highly regard.

My spare time is spent with making lasting memories my family and friends, enhancing my spiritual growth, and traveling and seeing different places.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance. I am wishing everyone a great  school year!
