Media Specialist

Meet Mrs. Tabitha Byrd

My name is Tabitha Byrd, and I am so excited to be the School Librarian Media Specialist at MLK.  I was born in Dillon, SC.  I graduated from Dillon High School, and then four years later, I graduated from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.  Later, I attended Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA and received a Masters of Education in School Administration K-12.  Then, I enrolled in Indian State University, and received an endorsement in School Library Media, K-12.  Currently, I have one more class to complete my Ed.S degree in Curriculum Instruction K-12 from Liberty University.  As you can see, I am a lifelong learner, and that is what I try to instill in all the boys and girls that I teach.

I have two lovely children.  My hobbies and interests include reading, technology, spending time with family, relaxing at the beach, and writing.  I have coached my son’s little league soccer team for 3 years, and Girls on the Run team from my previous school.  I love working with students, and encouraging students to read. Some of my favorite books are Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper, Babysitter’s Club by Anne Martin, and many more.  My favorite poet is Maya Angelou.

Although this is my first year working in RPS, I have over 18 years of educational experiences.  I am certified as an English teacher, a School Administration K-12, and a School Librarian Media Specialist K-12.  More importantly, I believe that education is a key of building a better life for one’s self, so one should seize every opportunity to make his or her life better.

Furthermore, I am looking forward to a wonderful year at MLK, and I am so glad to be joining the Titians’ family. Lastly, I believe that “The more that you read, the more things that you know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go” (Dr.Seuss).
